Assessment and evolution of the implementation of geosynthetic clay liners for underground works

Abstract

This paper will give an assessment and an insight into the evolution of the implementation of geosynthetic clay liners (GCL) for the waterproofing of underground works in France. After some more or less successful initial experiments with the implementation of clay based water-swelling procedures at the end of the 1980's, it presents the works of the committee for the revision of Fascicule 67 – Title III of the GTS (General Technical Specifications), concerning the technical specifications and the future recommendations for the use of GCL in French underground works.
