Abstract

The depletion of agricultural water resources is accelerating under the effect of climate change. Renewable water resources decreased by approximately 14% in France between 1990 and 2022, while agriculture accounts for 58% of total freshwater consumption. The MAELIA platform is a digital twin that simulates, at field scale and daily time step, the agricultural and hydrological dynamics of a catchment area. Its modular architecture and multicriteria indicators make it possible to explore scenarios co-constructed with local stakeholders, tested under different climate trajectories. Applied to watersheds under water stress, it serves both as a prospective tool and a support for stakeholder dialogue.
