Reinforced coarse-grained soils for structures on unstable sites

Abstract

Research is being carried out into the use of taken on-site coarse-grained soils in order to build defences against natural risks (landslides, avalanches, torrential floods, etc.). The geosynthetic soil reinforcement technique was used for a torrent control dam. A torrent bed coarse-grained soil was studied, using a very large shear box to measure the soil/soil and soil/geosynthetic friction properties.
