Abstract

Water consumers are aware that there are health risks associated with water. However, their fears often appear to be directed towards minor risks or anecdotal dangers, while others, of greater importance, require more attention and action. Therefore, it seems important to give a hierarchy of the different types of pollution, in order to understand what requirements are necessary for water treatment and what challenges lie ahead.
