Urban water Infrastructure Asset Management (IAM): the AWARE-P methodology and approach in Portugal and Norway

Abstract

In an environment of capital stress and added environmental and social challenges, utilities need to wisely manage their water systems and services to maximize the value of the service provided in a long term perspective. This paper summarizes the drivers, key characteristics and practical implementations in Portugal and Norway of AWARE-P, a systematic approach and associated software tools for infrastructure asset management (water supply and sewerage). Jointly designed by researchers, IT experts and utilities, developed and improved based on the feedback of utilities implementing them, AWARE-P is being recognized as an international key reference and already a standard in facto in Portugal and Norway.
