Water dispersion of Reynoutria vegetative and sexual propagules

Abstract

In Asian knotweeds (Reynoutria complex), river water is one of the main natural vectors for dispersing sexual (winged achenes) and vegetative (stem and rhizome fragments) propagules. The authors of this paper studied the flotation and viability of these three types of propagules under experimental conditions for different knotweed tasks. From their studies, it appears that there is a high variability between spots for a large number of traits involved in stream dispersal and bank colonization.
