The artificiality of a wetland buffer zone, an obstacle to its legal protection?

Abstract

Implemented in intensively cultivated and drained agricultural areas, artificial wetland buffers have demonstrated their effectiveness in restoring water quality and recreating islands of biodiversity. Within the framework of the Brie'Eau research program, the researchers looked at the legal framework applicable to the protection of these artificial zones, and analyzed how the available legal tools could be mobilized so that their status could be upgraded to that of a wetland and that they could benefit from enhanced protection.
