Preventing and managing Buddleia's invasion

Abstract

Plant invasions raise restoration issues, particularly when they prevent native biodiversity goals to be reached. In order to prevent establishment of alien invasive plant species after soil disturbance or in order to manage their monospecific populations, managers can find some help in the scientific advances developed in community ecology. Indeed, through insights on mechanisms driving plant assemblages, community ecology tends to interact with restoration ecology to propose management solutions. Taking the example of butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii Franchet), this article illustrates how one could use such scientific knowledge to improve the prevention of establishment of this Asian species and to manage invaded habitats.
