Abstract
Mapping pressures on biodiversity is a valuable tool for steering conservation policies. We present here the first catalogue of pressure maps in France, developed to contribute to implement the national strategy for protected areas. We first identified the most significant pressures then we searched for appropriate data. We were able to map 27 pressures on the 41 pressures identified for mainland France. We also produced maps in the French overseas territories. These maps are based on a wide variety of data sources and types. Cumulative maps combining the level of different pressures generated by the same sector of activity are also proposed. This work is intended to be cross-referenced with maps of heritage species and habitats to prioritise the creation of protected areas, but can also be used for other conservation policies.
