Abstract
The LIFE project Natur’Adapt, conducted between 2018 and 2023, proposed an experimental and collective approach to address a growing challenge for protected areas: integrating climate change into their management strategies. This approach included the involvement of sociologists to monitor developments such as shifts in perceptions and behaviours, and to strengthen the achievements of the project. Throughout the project, the sociologists developed a hybrid methodology combining data collection and analysis, iterative encounters with project stakeholders and guidance for reflective practices. As Natur’Adapt comes to an end, the added value of sociologists’ support can be acknowledged on several levels: firstly, by creating individual and collective spaces for reflection, through which sociologists adopted a “kind but uncompromising” stance, which helped reinforce a shared vision of the project and its objectives among stakeholders. Sociologists also contributed to developing “adaptive” habits among participants, increasing their resilience and facilitating the achievement of Natur’Adapt’s goals. Their presence and actions ensured sustained attention to the human dimension of the project, fostering a culture of “progression” and raising awareness of the emotional aspect of the project, which have since become integral to the Natur’Adapt approach.
