Abstract
Helophyte fascines are a sustainable bioengineering solution for bank stabilization in low-energy aquatic environments. These structures, consisting of biodegradable geotextile tubes filled with granular materials and pre-planted with helophytes, help limit erosion while promoting biodiversity. Their installation provides immediate stabilization, while the root development of the plants enhances substrate cohesion over the long term. Adapted to calm waters (lakes, canals, oxbow lakes), they align with ecological and cost-effective bank management approaches. However, their effectiveness depends on local hydrodynamic conditions and the selection of plant species. Still underutilized, these structures deserve greater attention to optimize their design and expand their range of applications.
