Abstract

The quality of rivers has been profoundly affected by landscape transformations over the past decades. IDESOC (ZABR, 2021–2024) and CHYPSTER (ANR, 2021–2026) projects, combining geography, hydrology, and biogeochemistry, aim to assess potential sources of river contamination and predict water quality trajectories at the scale of two mesoscale catchments (10–103 km²): one in Ardèche (the Claduègne) and the other in the Monts du Lyonnais (the Ratier, a sub-catchment of the Yzeron). This article proposes a methodology for spatializing and describing their landscape trajectories between agricultural modernization and urban sprawl in two distinct geographical contexts, and for developing indices of potential pollution sources linked to these land-use patterns, supported by surveys on contaminant uses.
