Abstract
Against a backdrop of growing pressure on water resources, the development of new monitoring tools is a key driver for the implementation of effective public policies. This article presents recent advances in remote sensing applied to the monitoring of water bodies, as part of the France 2030 program. Two complementary aspects are addressed: quantitative monitoring (area, volume, fill rate, tidal range) and qualitative monitoring (temperature, chlorophyll-a, turbidity, etc.), generated from satellite imagery (Sentinel-1 & 2, Landsat) and made available via interactive tools. These services, developed with the support of operator consortia and research laboratories, enable regular, reliable, and spatially continuous monitoring of water bodies. The example of the Serre-Ponçon reservoir illustrates the performance and practical applications of these tools for monitoring the dynamics of water bodies, enhancing crisis preparedness, improving information sharing and coordination among stakeholders, and better preserving lake ecosystems. This approach heralds a new generation of decision-support tools, integrating satellite data and field observations, for more integrated and responsive management across the country.
