Assessment of extreme values of rainfall and flood in France

Abstract

Although France has extensive rainfall and hydrometric measurement systems, it is still difficult to estimate extreme rainfall or flow values over the entire territory, since observation series are often too short to provide direct information on extreme events. After an overview of the estimation methods available for flood engineering, the authors of the article present a comparative work that has enabled a better understanding of their field of application.
